‘RE-STYLING AFRICA from Botswana’ New African Woman Edition issue 26

We had the opportunity to contribute to the international magazine, New African Woman for the latest issue August/September 2014, Issue 26. What a better chance to expose Botswana’s precious gems of creatives and show the world who we are and what we stand for? In this issue we touch on African and its diverse rich fashion and culture.

DESERT FLOWER: Playing with what it means to be African, fused with African tribal elements to create a contemporary feel.

Kaone Moremong’s collection draws inspiration from the sexy 50’s: flowy cuts fused with a touch of African print and chic African Lace head gear. A case of West meets South.

This is a new Africa, an increasingly prosperous continent, which has become a yardstick for defining fashion across the globe and shaking off the images of poverty, famine and war that had previously dominated the continent’s coverage.

An exceptional headdress, which instantaneously makes any African woman a queen that she knows she is- Rich, textured, and proud of her uncontaminated roots.

Today’s African fashion, whilst hugely diverse, is giving out a united message – Africa designs her clothes to be worn and loved-most importantly ensuring a dialogue between the garment and the wearer that presents a brand new mood.

The new model of African designer is epitomised by me of Botswana designers Kaone Moremong of House of Kay and Neo Ooke of African Lace. They epitomized the new style of African fashion – a combination of creativity, Mix of culture, new culture and a travel back in time and into the future. This is the Africa we have always known, Africa that is a portal of inspiration and not a trend. The intricacy, craftsmanship and delicate detailing is indeed, exquisite.

Practical, desirable with minimalistic details proving why her ladylike gestures whose quiet beauty will ensure long after the spotlight has dimmed.

Get transported and immersed in Africa’s global trotters bold prints, exotic accents, and earthly brights that takes you in, around and out of Africa. There is just a colourful stream of consciousness and creativity that flows out of Africa to the world, perfectly capturing the essence of the new Africa – Africa that is vibrant, creative and most of all, modern.

THE KHOI FRO

She done did it again, she has made us proud, she has set the bar level higher than high.. She always says “TO GOD BE THE GLORY!!” and i second that always.

She owns her dream and is working tirelessly to make her every dream possible, she has her modernized interpretations of what fashion is . The fashion industry is a billion dollar business, and we only want our country to recognize how much potential the youth of our country is investing into trying to reach opportunities beyond our borders, our dreams are not just for self satisfaction or pleasure, through exposures such as this one, we hope to motivate and inspire, business, entrepreneurs, youth and beyond.

Fashion tells a visual story, often times coupled with a story of history and tradition. Tsholo has just made history for our fashion culture and we should be proud and, i know i am…

Tsholo Dikobe The Khoi-fro of GaTsh Fros is on the COVER OF NEW AFRICA WOMAN magazine, GinaJane Jere, words cant explain how much this means, well i will leave the rest to Tsholo to share her feelings with the world..this is the continuation of bigger things. Fashion in Botswana will never be the same.

<beauty from the mother land>

Weeks and weeks late on this post, should have done this weeks ago, but as the saying always and will always say, better late that never..  the motivation behind this post is simply the fact that we are women/  mothers/ and artists ALWAYS. We have captured images of so many women, we just want to take you down memory lane and pass a note of thanks to all of them, they have helped us communicate our work with the rest of the world, taken their time to allow us to take them off their comfort zones. And we have a given them moments to shine. This is for you sisters/ Fros/ models/ clients/ the fashion nerds…

” Follow your inner moonlight, don’t hide the madness” that is what we have always done, my Boobie (left handed right woman) and I.  The walk of our fashion diaries have always allowed us to do much more than what we did on the previous work. We have made a mark in so many ways and we could not have made it without the beautiful models we have worked with and the man behind the camera who has captured all the beautiful moments, our photographer Kago Seatile. The designers who have given their time and trusted us enough to allow us to interpret their stories through our styling. What we deliver to the audience is all because of a team made of passionate souls that transform one model into goddess.

Miller All White Party

This post might be a week or two late, but it is worth sharing.

It has become one of those parties we all look forward to in BW entertainment and fashion scene.

They have taken us to the Game City roof top to Masa roof top.

I remember our first invitation to the event. VIP invite but we decided to mingle with everyone else for the just:). Pictured below

Randy Nkwe(left), Gaone (middle) Tsholo ( right) at the 2012 all white party. was very windy and cold, but we had awesome fun.

Its name comes from the requirement that party-goers dress in all or almost all white. The Miller all white party is an annual party hosted at Phakalane golf estate a week ago, it is one of the parties to look forward to around this time of the year. The Blu Muffin entertainment Annual All White Party is associated with class and all so white fashion. As you know, we’ll be the ones to look for the bros and fros who dressed ‘purely white’ for the occasion. Here is the evidence.

This is what went down this year, 2014.

We not new to the blogging world, we LIVE, LOVE and have fun doing it, Blogging allows you to reach into you inner self and create the best out of what you do. Writing allows you to free your soul. Its the same as singing or dancing or reciting a poem. It warms the heart and allows you to share with the world. We are the GaTsh Fros. We are proudly from Botswana. Gaone Mothibi is my name. Tsholo Dikobe is my ‘left’ handed Right woman:)

>>this is who we are<<

>>this is who we are<<

Following your love for something requires a lot of commitment and dedication. I remember when we were in tertiary some people would be on that ‘you guys wear weird stuff, you have a crazy fashion sense’. Did that discourage us, no. As much as when a child grows up, as a parent you are encouraged to nurture their talent, same goes for you as an individual, nature a talent regardless of obstacles or discouragement. At the end of it all if you don’t then you might just miss out on you life’s purpose. Live life 100% to the fullest, and as GaTsh Fros, that’s what we do.

the Fros in 2011..this was then>>>>>we still moving forward

We sleep, talk, and walk fashion. If we deny ourselves to express the inner hunger of our creativity then we are not doing anyone any good. The drive to greater heights should be driven with 100% acceleration- ‘ don’t be pushed by you Problems but be Led by your Dreams.’

Gaone Mothibi and Tsholo Dikobe are not just best of friends, they are passionate minds that share a common goal, and that is to take Botswana Fashion to a whole new level.

Writing is anything and everything fashion connects you with the world. We become a single entity that identifies with one passion. We speak the same language. We are paving a way for a fashion innovative nation. Speak your mind artistically, shout out and let it all out.
This is our story. Listen out for us. We speak with a voice that comes through much deeper than the clothing, itself.

Happy Friday
